Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau, Jr.) reveals how he ended up in jail and was crippled. A government proposal to cut conjugal visits leads to unrest among the prisoners. Beecher is granted a conjugal visit from his wife and receives a warning from Schillinger. The investigation into who killed Ortolani begins, and Jefferson Keane (Leon Robinson) hides his connection. Oz is rough at points, but that is the point of Oz.ġ.2 Visits, Conjugal and Otherwise Airdate: 07/14/97 I think it will go down as an important show just because it was the start of the tide turning from network shows to premium channel shows that everyone had to watch. Oz does have its issues, but it is still worth checking out.
I like the blending idea of the series (with lots of different types of killers and criminals in Em City) and I think the creators did good job creating a lush and unique batch of players. The actors cast in the series are quite strong and their characters do feel real. I could watch entire episodes focused on almost any of the characters in Oz or even many of the supporting characters. What does sell Oz is some great characters.
I think prison is enough of a visual world that the addition of a prisoner dangling in a cell comes off more silly than cool. I don’t like the speeches from the spinning glass block cell, so I don’t like the visual of the cell. When compared to more modern shows like The Wire (which is another benefactor from Oz’s existence), Oz looks a lot cheaper. Ross: We can talk parliamentary procedure later.Visually, Oz isn’t as gritty as I’d like it to be. You see, we can become a kind of council. McManus: Do I look like a travel agent to you? Kareem, take your medicine!Īlvarez: Gee Dad, I hope I can still make it to the prom.īeecher: I need you to move me to another cell block. Sister Pete: Don’t think of me as a psychologist. I just wanted to tell you that, um, the whole thing with the spoons, the whole Allah thing? It’s awesome.
Schibetta to Adebisi: How do you keep that hat on your head? Velcro? You got no appreciation for the simple things in life. And if he hadn’t been, the world would be a very different place. Sister Pete: Christ was executed, you know. Mukada: Same place He was when His own son died. How do they know? Did someone come back from the dead and say they didn’t feel anything?īeecher: Were you around when the last person in the state was executed?īob Rebadow: I was the last person in the state executed. Groves: They say lethal injection causes no pain.
McManus: Well I’m not even really sure that Christ died. Jeremy Goldstein: I mean, you don’t think of me as a Christ-killer or anything like that? Groves: Now how can I not get behind a religion like that? Groves: So you’re actually eating His flesh and drinking His blood. The Eucharist becomes the body of Christ. Groves: You have that whole mystical transubstantiation bit going. I’ve never done this confession thing before. Groves: Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.
Tim McManus: Yeah, and right afterwards he was betrayed and crucified. Leo Glynn: after McManus refuses a dinner invitation Too much work to do, right? You can take a break from saving the world. You killed your parents and ate them, right?ĭonald Groves: I only ate my mom. Kareem Said: I would give my life for you. Diane Wittlesey: There’s something in the air.
